Cannabis law in Switzerland
Finland is a member of the European Union and therefore has to follow the regulations that are introduced by the authorities of other Member States. It is worth mentioning that both THC and CBD are generally approved for use, but only under certain conditions. The Finns have shown some interest in CBD preparations. Furthermore, the country's government is in talks to decriminalise the possession of cannabis for personal use.
Want to know more about how cannabis is treated in Finland and whether the use of CBD products is legal? Check out the article below and you'll find out practically everything about it.
CBD in Finland - is it legal?
When it comes to hemp in Finland, it is worth noting that the European Commission has set a clear path that relates to the regulation of CBD and the procedures for marketing so-called novel food. This means that the production of CBD in Finland, as well as the introduction of extracts containing cannabidiol in their composition, is 100% legal. However, it is worth bearing in mind that the products have to comply with certain standards, especially relating to the THC content of the composition, e.g. of the oil.
The most important thing is that the final product does not contain more than 0.2% THC concentration in the formulation, i.e. a substance that exhibits psychotropic effects. A small amount of this compound is safe for humans, which is why the regular CBD laws in Finland fully permit the sale and possession of such products.
Please note that CBD producers in Finland as in other EU countries are not allowed to inform customers that the product may have medicinal properties.
CBD in Finland and paperwork on the part of the manufacturer
Companies that are involved in the production of CBD in Finland must first of all obtain the relevant permits to market the new product. To do so, an application must be made to the Finnish Food Authority to submit the product with the relevant certificate for analysis. This way, after sampling and testing, the authority will be able to confirm the composition and safety of CBD products with a THC content of no more than 0.2%. Subsequently, the product is registered in a special database, which then facilitates further control of the marketed preparation.
If you are going to Finland with your CBD oil, jellies or any other product containing this substance, you must expect that you will only bring into the country a product that has been authorised for novel foods in the relevant EU Member State. It is worth being careful, however, as the maximum concentration of THC in Poland has been raised to 0.3%, so you will not enter Finland legally with such a product. To avoid unpleasantness, it is better to carefully read the current regulations in your country.
Medical CBD in Finland - what is worth knowing?
Finland also enjoys the possibility of medical cannabis treatment, which is available on prescription from a doctor. CBD cannabis medicines are carefully controlled by the Finnish Medicines Agency FIMEA, which only allows the use of such substances with a prescription, and CBD medicines themselves are only available in selected pharmacies within Finland.
What are the penalties for possession of cannabis with THC in Finland?
At the moment, the substance THC is prohibited under Finnish law. According to the country's criminal code, a sentence of between one and seven years' imprisonment is provided for those who possess cannabis.
Interestingly, a 2001 reform of the law allows possession of up to 15 grams of a substance containing THC, without threatening legal consequences. It is worth mentioning, however, that possession of cannabis with the intention of distribution always results in a court hearing. Cannabis in Finland that is illegally planted will also be seized in the event of an inspection, and the case goes directly to court, which can impose heavy fines on the person.
