CBD and alcohol - what happens when you combine CBD with alcohol?
In recent years, CBD oil has been gaining popularity, while beer and other alcohols have not lost their widespread consumption. Therefore, it's not surprising that the question of whether these two substances should be combined has started to appear more frequently. This was mainly due to the uncertainty of what happens when both these substances are present in the bloodstream at the same time. Moreover, products like shots, whose main ingredients are vodka, CBD and potentially some flavor additives, are appearing on the market.
CBD as oil, alcohol in any form - what are they?
As it turns out, CBD oil and alcohol are polar opposites in terms of what types of substances they are. CBD is recognized as a strong neuroprotective and antioxidant agent. Meanwhile, alcohol is a well-known neurotoxin. Therefore, the question arises whether it's highly advisable or not to chase CBD oil with alcohol? However, first, it's worth clarifying exactly what both discussed substances are. Alcohol is the main psychoactive ingredient in many drinks, which makes us drunk. Yeasts processing sugar from carbohydrate-rich products are responsible for alcohol production. Moreover, it's the most popular substance in the world that people commonly intoxicate themselves with. Drinking leads to:
- Mental changes,
- Weakening of motor skills,
- Deterioration of cognitive functions,
- Uninhibited behavior,
- Weakening of judgment,
- Often exaggerated self-confidence.
However, the devil in this case lies not in the details, but in the quantity. While even the smallest amounts of alcohol affect the nervous system, it's really only larger doses that noticeably wear out the body. What is CBD? Cannabidiol, designated as CBD, is a compound found in Indian hemp alongside THC. What sets it apart is that, unlike THC, CBD does not intoxicate in any way, it doesn't contribute to the so-called high. As a result, it's a safe and legal compound. The largest amounts of it are produced from hemp seeds, which have practically zero THC concentration and a high level of CBD. The extracted product is usually prepared as an oil, whose health-promoting properties are its most commonly emphasized advantage. It's enough to say that CBD oil for weight loss is used on the recommendation of researchers who noticed extremely positive properties of this product.
Strong vodka, CBD - what will happen after they are combined?
It's commonly known that alcohol is known for its relaxing and calming properties. CBD also works equally well on shattered nerves, and alcohol combined with this substance can significantly enhance its effects. As a result, the potential effect of combining alcohol and CBD is calming down and increased drowsiness. However, this phenomenon is not fully researched and there is still a lack of certain, verified information. So far, researchers have observed that mixing these substances increased the motor efficiency of the subjects and also affected the change in the perception of time. These are, however, studies that require repetition on a larger research sample and using commonly used doses of CBD to actually verify the initial research results.
CBD against the effects of alcohol
It's worth noting, however, that there have been studies clearly indicating that CBD may protect against the unpleasant effects of alcohol abuse. How?
- Hangover remedy - the symptoms of a hangover are primarily: nausea, elevated blood pressure and headaches. Thanks to the mentioned neuroprotective and antioxidant properties, CBD alleviates at least some of the unpleasant symptoms.
- Lowering the level of alcohol in the blood - this action is considered the least reliable, as it results from long-ago conducted studies and that on a small group of people. It was then indicated that CBD may affect the lowering of the alcohol level in the blood, and therefore less impairment of motor and cognitive abilities.
- Protection against damage and diseases - frequent drinking contributes to cell damage and the emergence of serious chronic diseases. CBD also seems to promote cell protection against this type of devastating action.
As you can see, the relationship between CBD and alcohol still requires thorough research. The growing popularity of cannabinoids means that the amount of research being conducted is increasing along with it.
