Does CBD help with scars?

As a result of many types of accidents, we can end up with scars. These usually stay with us for years, sometimes for life. However, they often don't look too good and we strive to cover them up, remove them or at least reduce them. Recently, there is increasing talk about using CBD for this purpose. But does this substance actually help with scars?

How do scars form?

Scars are formed as a result of skin injuries, when it is interrupted. As a result, inflammation occurs. White blood cells are then released, protecting the damaged area from infection. Cells called platelets are responsible for blood clotting. After the bleeding is stopped, fibroblasts produce collagen, which strengthens the damaged area and the healing process begins. The place where the scar forms is red and irregular and the whole process can take up to 3 years.

There are several types of scars:

• Minor scars - the most common. When fully healed, they have a white, flat and smooth appearance;
• Extensive scars - movement during healing causes the scar to spread (stretch marks are classified into extensive scars). This type of scar can also occur after surgery;
• Scar contracture - occurs in case of skin diseases such as chickenpox or acne;
• Keloid scars - include fibrosis, the layer of collagen continues to grow despite the wound healing. They differ from hypertrophic scars in that they extend beyond the original injury site;
• Hypertrophic scars - fibrosis associated with collagen accumulation occurs. They may increase even several months after the injury, but flatten over several years. Hypertrophic scars do not extend beyond the original wound site.

CBD for scars and acne

For CBD to show its properties, it must be in the form of an ointment, as it can be precisely applied to a specific area. Oils can also be used in this case, but they are not as effective. CBD ointment for scars is thicker, more greasy, has moisturizing properties and absorbs longer, which increases the effectiveness of action.

Stretch marks are our body's response to changes in skin layers. They occur in both women and men, most often during puberty and pregnancy. Stretch marks are nothing more than scars that develop in the form of thin bands and grooves on the skin. Due to too little collagen (which is a protein that makes the skin elastic), damage occurs. Unfortunately, they cannot be fully prevented, as they are partly genetic. The relationship between CBD and scars is the influence of cannabidiol on increasing collagen production by the skin. The effect is a reduction in stretch marks and all kinds of scars. This is definitely an alternative to laser treatments, which are an expensive solution. Creams and balms that contain CBD are a much better solution if we don't want to incur high costs. The action of these cosmetics improves circulation, reduces inflammation, which supports self-regeneration.

Acne and the effects of CBD on acne scars

Acne largely affects people during puberty. It is often caused by hormonal changes, stress, diet or genetics. Changes occur due to excessive sebum production by the sebaceous glands on the skin. This causes clogging of the pores, and bacteria trapped in skin cells cause redness, acne changes and inflammation which can lead to acne scars. Antibiotics or retinol ointments are often used for these last changes and increasingly CBD preparations. The action of oils with cannabidiol reduces the production of sebum, reduces the impact of stress and inhibits inflammation.
